What is a B3 license applicable to?
Piston engine, non-pressurised aeroplanes of 2000kg MTOM or below

For the purpose of type ratings, what aircraft are into group 2?
All single engine aircraft or helicopters.
What is the definition of a complex multi powered aircraft?
Maximum certified take of mass exceeding 5700kg
Certified max passenger seating of 19 or more
Minimum crew of at least 2 pilots
What is the definition of a complex multi powered helicopter?
MTOM exceeding 3175kg
Passenger seating more than 9
Minimum 2 pilots
What form must a person complete when applying for a license?
EASA form 19.
Are licenses valid in other member states?
Can only be processed by same NAA, otherwise must be renewed or ratings require adding.
Is it permitted for a person to hold licenses issued in more than 1 country.
No.
What age must an applicant for a license be?
18.
What can an A license holder certify?
Minor scheduled line maintenance and simple defect rectification.
Cannot certify others work.
What does line maintenance include?
Trouble shooting, defect rectification, component replacement, scheduled maintenance.
What can a B1 licence certify?
Maintenance of aircraft structure, aircraft mechanical and electrical systems and power plants.
When can a B1 certify avionic work?
When it only requires simple testing to prove serviceability.
What can a B2 certify?
Aircraft avionic systems
Doesn’t include Cat A privileges
What can a B3 certify?
Exact same as B1, however doesn’t include any Cat A sub category
What does a Cat C certify?
Permits holder to issue Certificates of Release to Service (CRS) following base maintenance.
What are the experience requirements for A, B1.2, B1.4, B3?
3 years no technical training
2 years if can demonstrate technical training
1 year after completion of part 147 course
What are the experience requirements for B1.1, B1.3, B2?
5 years no technical training
3 years with technical training
2 years after completion of part 147 course
What are the experience requirements for Cat C on large aircraft?
3 years with B1.1, B1.3 or B2
5 years with B1.2, B1.4
(3 years in maintenance environment, 6 months observation)
How much experience is needed for initial license?
1 year recent experience.
What is the time frame for completing experience prior to application?
10 years.
When does an AML become invalid?
After 5 years unless holder submits it to issuing competent authority for review.
What must a Cat B have before any authorisation is issued?
Any type rating
What are AD’s?
Airworthiness Directives
How long must type training last?
Between 2 weeks and 4 months.
