101 Safety Fundementals Flashcards
Explain these parts of the five step process as they apply to ORM
Identify Hazards - Analyze mission, list hazards, determine root cause Assess Hazards- Severity and probability Make risk Decisions- ID Control Options Implement controls Supervise
Define “high-risk” course
Elevated probability of loss or an increased level of severity is likely or imminent
Discuss what type of courses are considered “high-risk”
RTC Live Fire
Pre Buds
Fire Fighting
Elevator school
Discuss the difference between these types of courses
Voluntary - designator of “A” or “D” in CeTARS
Involuntary- Sailor is enrolled thru the accession training or follow-on specialty skills school
Discuss what Drop on Request “DOR” is and the procedures for conducting one.
Makes intentions known
Immediately and expeditiously removed
Written summary of actions taken is entered in students ESR and a copy is maintained in command permanent records
Discuss what Training Time Out “TTO” is and the procedures for conducting one.
Concern for personal safety or a need to clarify procedures or requirements
Training stops immediately until situation is resolved
Training can then continue
Discuss the purpose of the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) and how often must it be reviewed for accuracy of information
Preplanned responses in the event of a mishap to aid involved persons and control and or safeguard the scene
reviewed Quarterly
fully exercised Annually
Discuss periodic requirements for safety stand-downs
Annually or as directed by CO
Discuss the following as it pertains to “high-risk” instructor Mishap reporting Training mishap Site augment plans Special course indicator codes Course unique instructor training (CUIT) INstructor screening process Evaluation Process Training Safety Officer
Mishap reporting- immediately report to supervisor injuries or property damage resulting from mishap
Training mishap- any mishap that occurs as a result of curriculum or environment
Site augment plans- fixing a site for high risk training
Special course indicator codes- “A” or “D” in CeTARS
Course unique instructor training (CUIT)- train the trainer on all high risk course issues and safety
Instructor screening process- ESR/MED/PFA screened, CO interview
Evaluation Process- assesses high risk instructor in class and lab or field settings % commisurate with time spent norm
Training Safety Officer- be familiar with TOs, training procedure, safety and emergency procedures facilities and equipment. be knowledgeable. observe high risk trainings frequently. ensure all mishaps investigated. keep CO or OIC informed
Discuss the importance of heat/cold stress, monitoring, and control in a training
The importance is based upon prior conditioning, activity level of the training to ensure Sailors are prepared to participate in the activity and mitigate potential loss of life.
