How are organsims classified

A
  1. As you move down the hierarchy there are more groups at each level but fewer organisms in each group. They become more similar and share more of the same characteristics
  2. species: a group of organisms able to reproduced to produce fertile offspring. eg. donkey, horse, mule.

Naming Organisms

  1. Common names aren’t good for scientists working internationally as they’re different in different countries.
  2. Don’t show information about relationships with other organisms
  3. Binomial nomenclature; first word, genus second word, species
