Crestor/Rousvastatin
- May be taken with or without food
- Do not crush or chew
- Contents may be sprinkled into soft food. Consume the mixture within 60 minutes of mixing.
Lipitor/Atorvastatin
Suspension:
1. take on an empty stomact at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal
2. Can take without any regard to to time of day
3. Used the calibrated dosing syringe to take
Tablet:
1. with or without food
2. You can take at any time of day
Pravastatin/Pravachol
Take without regard to meals
Tricor/fenofibrate
Capsule - do not open, crush, dissolve, or chew - swallow whole
Administer without regard to food
Zetia/Ezetimibe
Can take with or without food
Administer at least 2 hours before or at least 4 hours after bile acid sequesterants
Can be taken at the same time as statins or fenofibrate
Depakote (ER)/Divalproex
- take with food (may cause stomach upset)
- Sprinkle capsules - may swallow whole or may open capsule and sprinkle on soft food. Eat immediately without chewing
Dilantin/Phenytoin Sodium
- Divide daily dose into 2-3 doses. Give largest dose at bedtime
- ER is usually dosed q12h
- Avoid antiacids at the same time as taking pheytoin
- Seperate tube feeds by at least 2 hours
5, Avoid IM injection - Does cross the placenta and is at risk for congenital malformations - try to avoid in pregnancy
Keppra/Levetriacetam
- if taking a liquid, use the calibrated measitung device
- for IV infuse over 15 minutes
- IF taking the ODT, peel the foil back - DO NOT push through the foil
4.. Do not crush or chew tablet - If using a gastric tube, dilute the solution with 3 times the voule of purfied water (10 ml of l keppra = 30 ml of water)
- may administer without regards to meals
