What are joint costs?
Common costs incurred for joint products up until the point of separation
What are the 3 possible bases for splitting out joint costs?
Physical quantities, ultimate sales value of final product less further processing costs, sales value at split off point
What should be considered when deciding whether to continue to process a product at separation?
NOT allocation of joint costs, but
- Selling price after further processing
- Selling price at separation
- Additional further processing costs involved
- Losses involved in processing further
- Quantities before and after processing
