In German, the article (der, ein, etc.) is used before most nouns. The article is sometimes omitted in German but not in English and vice versa.
The following categories of nouns are preceded by an article.
* Time expressions with a preposition Im (= In dem) Winter/Sommer in winter/summer am (= an dem) Samstag on Saturday * Seasons Der Fruhling fängt im April an. Spring starts in April. * Meal times Das Mlttagessen ist um ein Uhr. Lunch is at one o'clock. Das Fruhstuck ist um sieben Uhr. Breakfast is at seven.
