Hyoglossus
A
Flat, quadrilateral muscle.
Depresses tongue and draws its sides downward.

Genioglossus
A
Fan shaped : forms bulk of inferior part of tounge: it’s attachment to mandible.
Primarily protrudes tounge. Can depress or act in concert with other extrinsic muscles to retract tounge.

Styloglossus
A
Running superiorly to and at right angles to hyoglossus.
Retracts and elevates tongue.
