10-9 Solar Neutrinos Flashcards
1
Q
how many neutrinos does the sun produce?
A
the sun produces 10^38 neutrinos per second but only 100 billion pass by each cm^2/sec which is 1/3 of what is expected
2
Q
where are the missing neutrinos?
A
detection experiments show that there are 3 types of neutrinos: electron, muon, and tau neutrinos and they can switch among themselves so thus we only see 1/3 of the electron neutrinos produced in the sun
