Q

Middleware

A

software used by Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) Systems.

22
Q

Which systems produce repots?

A

TPS Transaction Processing System, FAIS Functional Area Information Systems, ERP systems, customer relationship management systems, business intelligence systems, etc.

23
Q

Ad-hoc (on-demand) reports

A

Drill down- reports
Key-indicator reports
Comparative reports

24
Q

Drill down reports

A

type of ad hoc reports, organized subsets with many details.

25
Q

Key indicator reports

A

summarize the performance of critical activities, ie cash flow and cash on hand.

26
Q

Comparative Reports

A

for example may compare performance of different business units or within a single unit during different time periods.

27
Q

Exception Reports

A

reports that include only information that falls outside certain threshold standards. Implemented by “management by exception”.

28
Q

Management by Exception

A

mgmt creates performance standards which are monitored by systems, then company compares actual performance to standards but also identify exceptions to these standards (everything that did not meet these standards. Mgmt is updated via exception reports so they can focus on these particular problem areas.

29
Q

Benefits of ERP

  • ERP can be complex, expensive, and time consuming.
  • Costs and risks of failing to implement ERP can be substantial.
  • ERP can be unsuccessful when underestimated. Affected employees can lack involvement.
31
Q

What types of reports do information systems produce?

A

Routine reports
Ad-hoc (on-demand) reports
Exception reports
