1# Science Test Term 1 Yr 10 Flashcards
What does the Necleus do?
Stores the DNA which controls the chemical reactions and activities of the cell
What does the Nucleolus do?
Invloved in ribosome synthesis
What do Ribosomes do?
Where protein synthesis takes place
What does the Mitochondria do?
Where cellular respiration takes place which supplies energy to the cell
What does the Golgi apparatus do?
Modifies and packages proteins to be sent to correct destination
What does the Chloroplast do?
The organelle where photosynthesis takes place
What does the Cell membrane do?
Membrane that holds cell together and controls what enters and leaves the cell
What does the Cell wall do?
Provides shape support and protection to the cell
What does Cytoplasm do?
Fluid in cell containing cell organelles. It constantly flows
What does the Vacuole do?
Fluid filled sacs that store food, water and wastes. Bigger than animal ones
What does the Endoplasmic reticulum do?
A network of membranes that serves as a transport system to transport materials through the cell .
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribose necleic acid
What is the order for DNA?
Genes, amino acids, proteins and traits
How much DNA is packaged into chromesomes?
Each chromosome can hold up to 3000 genes
What are the 2 types of chromosomes?
Autosomes and sex chromosomes
Who etsabiished the structure of DNA and in what year?
Rosalind Franklin, james watson and francis Crick in 1953
How much Chromosomes do humans have?
23 pairs = 46
Or 47 for humans whith downsindrome
What are the 4 nitrogen containing bases and what do they go together as?
Gauaine with cytosine
Adenine with thymine
What is the shape of DNA called?
A double helix, a twisted ladder
Where can DNA be found?
The necleus and mitochondria of most animal and plant cells. DNA can also be found in Chloroplast of plant cells
What is the DNA ladder made out of?
The uprights of the ladder are made out of alternating sugar and phosphate molecules. The sugar is deoxyribonse. The steps of the ladder are made out of guanine with cytosine and adenine with thymine
