1. Organization of the body Flashcards
Describe the transverse plane
The transverse plane separates the head side (superior) from the feet (inferior) side. The transverse plane cuts through the stomach/belly area
Describe the sagittal plane
The sagittal plane divided the body into left and right. This is also called the lateral plane.
Describe the coronal plane
The coronal plane divides the body into anterior and posterior. This is also called the frontal plane
What does proximal mean?
Proximal = nearer to the body than –use only for structures on limbs
What does distal mean?
Distal = further away from the body than-use only for structures on limbs
What does lateral mean?
Lateral = nearer to the outside than
What does medial mean?
Medial = nearer to the mid point than
What does caudal mean?
Caudal = Nearer to the tail than (use inferior only for humans)
What does cranial mean?
Cranial = nearer to the head than (use superior only for humans)
What are the four major tissue types?
The four major tissue types are: epithelial / connective / muscle / nervous
What is the difference between anatomy and physiology?
Anatomy and physiology are two of the most basic terms and areas of study in the life sciences. Anatomy refers to the internal and external structures of the body and their physical relationships, whereas physiology refers to the study of the functions of those structures.
