1. Length and time Flashcards
Length and time
What is used to measure length between 1mm and 1m?
A ruler, measures to nearest 1mm
How do you measure the volume of an irregular shaped object?
Place it into a measuring cylinder full of water. This causes water level to rise and this this is equal to the volume of the object
Vernier calipers measure to the nearest:
1/10mm eg 0.01 cm
Micro screw gauge measure to the nearest:
1/100mm eg 0.001 cm
What is used to measure time intervals?
Analog and digital clocks
How can an average value for a small distance and for a small time interval be found?
By measuring multiples
How can length measurements be made more accurate?
By measuring multiples such as thickness of 500 sheets than divide by 500 to find thickness of single sheet
How can results/measurements be made more reliable?
By repeating it and if results similar it is reliable
Define reliable:
How consistent results are
Define accuracy:
How accurate it is, accurate without any error. How much of it is right or how close is it to known or acceptable value
Define precise:
How reproducible measurements are even if they are far from accurate
Define parallax error:
Perceived shifts in an objects position as it is viewed at different angles.
How do you measure length of pendulum:
Measure to center of gravity, Take two measurements and average them, one from fixed end to beginning of bob and from fixed end of string to far end of bob
How do yo measure volume of a regular shaped object?
Volume = Length x width x height
To what degree of accuracy does a digital stop watch measure:
0.01 s
