1 L4 Local Potentials Flashcards
Local potential features
Decremental - Graded - Localized - Small - Summation capability - Either Depolarizing or Hyperpolarizing
Decremental- local potential
Decrease in size with distance away from initiation site (e.g. bell shaped curve)
Graded- local potential
Vary in size and duration depending on size and duration of stimulus
Localized- local potential
Occur close to site of initiation but do not actively get conducted away from that site
Small- Local potential
Usually a few mV
What 2 forms can local potentials be
Depolarisation and Hyperpolarization
True or False- Local potentials are capable of summation
True
What are the names for the spread of charge in a local potential
Passive or Electronic
What does PSP stand for
Post Synaptic Potential
What are the 2 types of summation for local potentials
Temporal and Spacial
Describe temporal summation
If they occur close together in time
Describe spatial summation
If they arrive in close physical proximity
What are the 4 neutron types
Unipolar - Bipolar - Multipolar - Anaxonic
Where do local potentials arise
Receptive structures at nerve endings of primary sensory unipolar neurons
2 pairs for local potentials
Excitatory - Depolarizing -
Inhibitory - Hyperpolarizing
