1. General Physics Flashcards
Speed
The total distance covered is a specific amount of time.
Acceleration
Change in speed per unit time.
Velocity
An objects speed in a particular direction.
Free fall
The acceleration of a free fall body to the earth is constant.
Mass
The measured amount of matter.
Weight
The force in which a body is pulled towards earth due to gravity.
Density
The mass per unit volume of a substance.
Hooke’s law
- The force needed to extend or compress a spring by some distance.
- Force is directly proportional to extension.
Equilibrium
- No resultant force
* Clock wise moments= Anti-clockwise moments thus no turning effect.
Vector
A quantity that have’s magnitude and direction.
Scalar
A quantity that only has magnitude.
Center of mass
Point where mass seems to be concentrated on.
State the principle of conservation of energy
Energy can’t be destroyed or created.
Law of moments
Total clock wise moments = Total Anti-clock wise moments
Work done
Force moves and object in the direction the force is applied.
Energy
The ability of an object to do work.
Kinetic Energy
Energy an object has because of it being in motion.
Potential Enery
Object has energy due to its position from the ground.
Power
- Energy transferred
* Work done in one second by an object
Chemical Energy
Energy stored in chemical substances.
Thermal Energy
Energy being transferred from hotter to cooler place because of the temperature difference.
Nuclear Energy
Energy stored in nucleus of a substance.
Nuclear fusion
Process by which energy is released by the joining together of two small light nuclei to form a heavier nucleus.
