1 First look anatomy Flashcards
Anterior vs. posterior
Anterior in front of, towards front, Posterior in back of or towards the back.
Dorsal vs. ventral
Dorsal at the back, Ventral at the front
Superior vs. inferior
Superior closer to head, Inferior closer to the feet
Cranial (rostral) vs. caudal
Cranial at the head end, Rostral near the nose, caudal at the rear end.
Medial vs. lateral
Medial toward the midline, Lateral away from midline.
Superficial vs. deep
Superficial on the outside, Deep inside or underneath
Proximal vs. distal
Proximal closest to the trunk, Distal further from the trunk.
Ventral
at the belly side
Abdominopelvic
abdominal and pelvic cavities
Thoracic
Lungs, heart, mediastinum
Abdominal
four abdominopelvic regions and identify what organs are found in each quadrant.
Pelvic cavity
urinary bladder, reproductive organs, and rectum
Pleural cavity
contains the lungs
Pericardial cavity
contains the heart
Cranial cavity
contains the brain
Posterior aspect
answer
Vertebral canal
contains the spinal column
Describe the anatomy of a serous membrane. Differentiate between the pericardium, pleura and peritoneum.
Serous membrane contains serous the inner-side closest to the organ it surrounds is called the visceral layer and the outer layer is the parietal layer. Pericardium surrounds the heart, the pleura surrounds the lungs, and the peritoneum surrounds the abdominal cavity.
radiography
X-Rays best for hard and dense, bones, teeth, tumors
computed tomography
CT, 3D image using X-rays
magnetic resonance imaging
MRI noninvasive technique to visualize soft tissue
sonography
Ultra sound great for obstetrics for fetal development observation
Digital Subtraction Angiography
DSR uses x-rays to observe blood vessels.
positron emission tomography
PET scan is nuclear medicine, the positron can show glucose, damaged tissue will not utilize glucose and will show up dark. Good for heart and brain function.
Mediastinum
contains heart, thymus, esophagus, trachea, and major blood vessels
parietal layer
parietal aspect is the outermost layer of the serous membrane
visceral layer
visceral aspect is the outermost layer of the serous membrane
stomach
left upper quadrant
spleen
left upper quadrant
appendix
right lower quadrant
Liver
right upper quadrant
gull bladder
right upper quadrant
