HRM
Management of employees for their own benefit and for their organisations #employer/employee relo. Specifically the effective and productive use of people to ensure organisations meet strategic business objective and goals; advancing a competitive advantage
Psychological contract
The expectations and beliefs of employees and their managers about working conditions and relationships in the workplace
Pluralist
The view that conflict is inevitable between employees and employees and therefore conflict needs to be resolved effectively
Collective bargaining
A method of negotiation between unions and employers, used to resolve conflict over the terms and conditions of employment
Unitarist
The perception that employer and employee interests are shared and that there is no need for conflict between them
Legal contract
The legal documents that detail employer and employee rights and responsibilities
Social contract
The mutual understanding and set of social norms that underpin an employment relationship, regarding expectations and obligations of employers, employee and the society at large
‘Hard’ HRM
Focuses on the measurement and management of employee costs and outcomes for organisational benefit
Soft HRM
HRM approaches that focus on employee needs, and may include consultation, engagement, counselling and support
