Sagittal Plane

Divides L from R, but not on midline
Frontal/coronal plane
Divides body anteriorly and posteriorly (front and back)
Transverse plane
Divides top from bottom
Oblique plane
Cut at an angle, not a usual plane
Dorsal cavity
Protects fragile NS, includes cranial and vertebral cavities
Ventral cavity
House internal organs (viscera), includes thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities
Thoracic cavity
Holds pleural cavity for lungs, mediastinum surrounding esophogus/trachea, and pericardial cavity for heart
Abdominopelvic cavity
Abdominal holds stomuch, intestines, spleen, liver, and pelvic holds bladder, repro. organs, rectum
Serosa/serous membranes
Thin, double layered membranes that cover surfaces in ventral cavity
