1. Applied Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
What are the four functions of the skeletal system?
Support, protection, movement, and production of blood cells.
Name the three types of muscle found in the human body.
Cardiac, smooth, and skeletal muscles.
Define the term ‘flexion’.
Bending of a joint, decreasing the angle between bones.
Define the term ‘extension’.
Straightening a joint, increasing the angle.
What is the pathway of air during respiration?
Nose/mouth → trachea → bronchi → bronchioles → alveoli.
How does the double circulatory system work?
Blood is pumped from the heart to the lungs for oxygenation and then to the rest of the body to deliver oxygen.
What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic exercise?
Aerobic uses oxygen for energy, occurs during low-intensity activity; anaerobic does not use oxygen, occurs during high-intensity activity.
