#1: Anatomy Flashcards
Two structural types of neurons:
Multipolar (MC) and Pseudounipolar (Sensory only in PNS)
Motor neuron cell bodies found in the gray matter of the spinal cord are called
lower motor neurons
Motor neuron cell bodies found in the nuclei of the brain are called
Upper motor neurons
Components of a nerve fiber: (3)
- axon
- its neurolemma
- surrounding endoneurial CT
cell membrane of Schwann cells that surround the axon, separating it from other axons
Neurolemma
- Schwann cell may or may not regenerate myelin, aka myelinated and unmyelinated tissues
an insulator of the axon
myelin
A nerve consists of: (3)
- a bundle of nerve fibers (fascicle) outside the CNS
- CT covering that surrounds and binds the nerve fibers together
- BV to supply nerve
tough thick CT that surrounds and encloses a bundle of fascicles; outer most covering of a “nerve”
epineurium
dense connective tissue enclosing a fascicle of nerve fibers
Perineurium
delicate connective tissue directly covering nerve fiber
endoneurium
Cranial Nerves:
1- Olfactory 2- Optic 3- Oculomotor 4- Trochlear 5- Trigeminal 6- Abducens 7- Facial 8- Auditory/Vestibulocochlear 9- Glossopharyngeal 10- Vagus 11- Spinal Accessory 12- Hypoglossal
Trigeminal nerve consists of these 3 branches:
- maxillary
- mandibular
- opthalamic
Posterior Rami supply nerve fibers to: (3)
- joints of the spine
- spinal muscles
- skin of the back
Anterior Rami supply nerve fibers to: (2)
- muscles and skin of anterior and lateral aspect of the trunk
- plexus formation
Cell body and axon in the PNS are found where?
cell body: ganglion
axon: nerves and nerve plexuses
