1 Flashcards
Engram
Memory trace - hypothetical permanent neural change
Working memory
Online ongoing memory - lasts for up to a few mins (until distraction).
Non-associative learning
Repeated exposure to a stimulus, resulting in a response.
Associative learning
Exposure to 2 or more paired stimuli simultaneously, resulting in a response.
Example: operant conditioning, classical conditioning.
Complex learning
Learning involving insight, which is not simply a direct response to stimulus.
Example: word learning and tool use in primates.
Habituation
Repeated exposure to non-threatening stimulus results in reduced response.
Sensitisations
- Exposure to noxious stimulus results in heightened response to non-noxious stimulus.
- Adaptive response - reduction in energy expenditure.
Conditioning
Pairing of more than 1 stimulus during training - creates different response when both or one are subsequently presented.
