1/27 Flashcards
What are the 5 parts of the scientific method and explain
1) observation- looking at the world around you
2) question
3) hypothesis- nerve in a form of a question
If…..then….
Needs to be testable
4) testing/ experiment
5 conclusions- if you can repeat the experiment many times it becomes a theory
What is the control group?
Normal setting
What is the experimental group?
What you’re manipulating
What are the 2 variables?
1) independent variable
2) dependent variable
What is the dependent variable?
What you’re measuring
What is the independent variable?
What you’re manipulating
What is the control variable?
What you want to keep the same
What variable is the y axis?
Dependent variable
Which variable is the x axis?
Independent variable
What 9 things does a good graph have?
1) title
2) axis that are appropriate and labeled
3) units are included with labeled axes
4) independent variable on x axis
5) dependent variable on y axis
6) bar graph is discrete data and line graph is continuous data
7) the numbered axes are equal
8) the graph should use the spaces given
9) it is not misleading
What is continuous data?
Data that can be measured with an infinite number of values in it
What is discrete data?
Values fall into exclusive categories
What are examples of continuous data?
Height
Altitude
Time
Pulse rate
What are examples of discrete data?
Species of fish
Type of pollution
Gender
Color of flowers
