1/18/23 Engines, APU Flashcards
Which engine component keeps the engine within operating parameters and limits its maximum thrust?
Electronic Engine Control (EEC)
What is the indication an EEC is operating in normal mode?
ON (white) when normal control mode is selected.
With an EEC switch showing both ALTN and ON, thrust levers never having been brought to IDLE, what mode is the EEC in?
The EEC has automatically switched to Soft Alternate Control Mode (ON light remains visible)
The EECs provide redline protection(s) for which parameters?
The EEC provides N1 and N2 redline overspeed protection in both normal and alternate modes. Also protects EGT hot start on the ground.
When do the EECs select approach idle minimum thrust?
selected with engine anti-ice selected ON for either engine or flaps in the landing configuration.
It is set to 72-79% N2 and will remain there until 5 seconds after landing for possible go-around, at which point ground minimum idle is selected.
What is indicated by the ENGINE CONTROL (amber) light?
illuminates when the EEC detects faults in the Engine Control System that are not dispatchable. The light is functional when all of the conditions listed below are met:
- a no dispatch engine fault occurs
- engine is operating (N2 is greater than 50% with start lever in IDLE)
- aircraft on ground:
• groundspeed is below 80 kts prior to takeoff
• approximately 30 seconds after touchdown
The illumination of an ENGINE CONTROL light will cause the ENG annunciator and MASTER CAUTION lights to illuminate.
What indicates an EGT exceedance after engine shutdown?
After engine shutdown on the ground, a red box will be displayed around the digital readout indicating that an in-flight exceedance has occurred
How is an EGT redline exceedance displayed?
red when EGT reaches or exceeds redline (Maximum Takeoff EGT, Maximum Continuous EGT, Maximum Start EGT).
What causes the ENG FAIL (amber) alert on the EGT indicator?
when the respective engine is operating at a condition below sustainable idle (50% N2) and the Engine Start Lever is in the IDLE position. The alert remains until the engine:
- recovers
- Start Lever is moved to CUTOFF, or
- Fire Switch is pulled
How do you display the Fuel Used?
Press the spring-loaded Fuel Flow switch down to USED position displays fuel used since last reset, and after 10 seconds the display will automatically revert to fuel flow
What does the OIL FILTER BYPASS light indicate?
Appears when there is an impending bypass of the Scavenge Oil Filter.
Which position(s) does a start switch need to be in for both igniters to activate in case of an engine flameout?
Any Position.
When the EEC detects an engine flameout, both igniters are activated regardless of the positioning of the Ignition Select Switch.
During ground starts, which malfunction(s) do the EECs monitor for?
- impending hot starts
- engine stalls
- EGT start limit exceedances, and
- wet starts
How is an impending hot start indicated during ground starting?
a rapid rise in EGT or EGT approaching the start limit the white box surrounding the EGT digital readout flashes white.
The EEC automatically turns off the ignition and
shuts off fuel to the engine for an impending hot start or stall.
What are the reverse thrust indications on the Upper Display above the N1 indicators?
Amber when either reverser sleeve moves from the stowed position.
As the thrust reverser reaches the deployed position, the REV indication illuminates green and the reverse thrust lever can be raised to detent No. 2.
