1/18/23 Communications Flashcards
What is the purpose of the ALT-NORM switch on the ACP?
NORM position allows the ACP to operate normally. In the ALT (Alternate) position, the ACP operates in the degraded mode.
The Push-to-Talk switch, when toggled, transmits on which transmitter?
As selected by ACP transmitter selector. (In the image VHF 1)
What does the SERVICE INTERPHONE switch on the Aft Overhead do?
Allows maintenance or service personnel external jacks to connect to the system. With the SERVICE INTERPHONE switch in the OFF position, communication between Flight Deck and Flight Attendants is still possible. However, all external jacks are deactivated.
What does the ATTEND button do?
Sounds a two-tone chime in the Passenger Cabin and illuminates both pink Master Call Lights.
How can the Flight Deck alert the Ground Crew?
Pressing the GRD CALL switch sounds a horn
in nose wheel well when pressed. The horn will sound until the switch is released.
What is the purpose of the VHF TEST switch on the RTP?
Removes the automatic squelch feature, permitting reception of background noise and thereby testing receiver operation. It also improves the reception of weak signals.
What failure messages could display on the RTPs, and what do they mean?
FAIL FAIL indication is displayed when the selected radio has failed. (Transceiver has failed)
NOTE: The selected frequencies may continue to be displayed in the Frequency Indicator when the radio is not available.
PANEL FAIL is displayed when the Radio Tuning Panel has failed. (Internal Failure of the RTP)
What is the indication of tuning an offside Radio Tuning Panel (RTP)?
The Offside Tuning (white) Light, when illuminated, indicates the radio normally associated with this panel is being tuned by another radio tuning panel, or the radio tuning panel is being used to tune a radio not normally associated with this radio tuning panel.
What considerations should be made before keying the HF radio on the ground?
Ensure no fueling and personnel are at least 10 ft from the vertical stabilizer.
WARNING! Do not key the HF Radio while the aircraft is being fueled/ defueled. Injury to personnel or fire may result.
WARNING! Ensure that personnel stay a minimum of 10 ft from the vertical stabilizer when the HF system transmits. RF energy from the antenna can cause injuries to personnel.
Does the hand microphone on the Aft Electronics Panel require the ACP to be tuned before making a PA to the cabin?
No, The PA Hand Microphone jack bypasses the ACP.
Why must a SELCAL light be reset?
No other calls may be received until the channel is reset.
The Reset Switch (when pressed) extinguishes and resets the SELCAL light. No other calls may be received until the channel is reset.
Which ACP is used to control the cabin MEDLINK headset jacks?
The MEDLINK headset jacks are controlled by the observer’s Audio Control Panel
What is the priority of source selection for ACARS in the data mode?
- VHF
- SATCOM
- HF
• VHF is the most commonly used and least expensive mode. Transmission requires line-of-sight and is not available beyond approximately 150-200 nm from the ground station or over long expanses of ocean.
• SATCOM mode is automatically selected if VHF mode is not available (ETOPS, SATCOM installed).
• HF mode is automatically selected if VHF or SATCOM modes are not available (ETOPS, SATCOM inop or not installed).
