Q

Outline the limbic system.

A

Complex set of structures acting as a bridge between the midbrain and the neocortex.

Physically surrounds thalamus and sits under cerebrum.

Important for responses, drive and direction, memory, autonomic arousal (fight or flight), consciousness, attention, sensory processing, time appraisal, emotions, smell and rewards.
Now considered as a functional rather than anatomical area, connections to other areas just as important as within.
