What is a serif font?
A serif font has little flourishes at the ends of individual glyphs.
What is a sans-serif font?
A sans-serif font does not have the little flourishes at the ends of individual glyphs. Sans is french for without.

Italic is?
A style of lettering where the letters slant to the right, in true Italic versions the letters have been redesigned.
Oblique is?
The type is just slanted, typical of most sans serif fonts (but not all).

Serif, sans-serif, italic, oblique, bold, normal, light, upper case, lower case, width between letters (condensed or wide), justification (right, centre, left)
What do gothic fonts connote?
Tradition and history.
What do serif fonts connote?
Elegance and tradition but not as old as gothic fonts.
What do sans-serif fonts connote?
Modernism, cleanliness and professionalism.
What do grudge or distressed fonts connote?
Disruption and uneasiness.
Where are grudge or distressed fonts used?
Often in the horror genre.
What do script (handwritten) fonts connote?
That they have been written by a real person or that something has been handmade.
What do decorative fonts connote?
Can connote silliness and comedy depending on text decor.
What does hand lettering connote?
Authentic, craft based, artistic, individual (hipster).
