What is a repertoire of elements?
Things that repeat within the same genre. I.e. narrative events, character roles, camera shots/edits.

What does a media text need to be successful?
Repetition and Difference
What is repetition in media terms?
Media texts repeat signs and codes from other texts to place them within a genre,
What is difference in media terms?
Texts also need to be different, finding new ways to manipulate those codes and conventions to offer something new to the audience and persuade them to experience it.
What is the importance of marketability?
It is easier for marketing companies to promote and advertise new products that feel familiar.
Media producers also apply generic codes across different media formats to access established consumers.
E.g. film audiences = video game players, so why noy produce video game narratives which replicate the generic codes from films.
What is a sub-genre?
Genres often consist of further more specific categories
