Traumatic brain injury (TBI)
acquired brain injury or simply head injury that occurs when a sudden trauma causes damage to brain.
Result when head suddenly and violently hits an object OR when objects pierces the skull and enters brain tissue
What is a Mild TBI?
remain conscious or may experience a loss of consciousness for a few seconds or minutes.
Symptoms of a mild TBI?
headache, confusion, lightheadedness, dizziness, blurred vision, tired eyes, ringing in ears, bad taste in mouth, fatigue or lethargy, a change in sleep patterns, behavioral or mode changes, and trouble with memory, concentration, attention or thinking.
moderate to severe TBI
headache that gets worse or does not go away. Repeated vomiting or nausea, convulsions or seizures, inability to awaken from sleep, dilaiotnof one or both pupils of the eyes. Slurred speed, weakness or numbness in the extremities, or agitation.
Additional symptoms to a severe TBI
depends on location
- loss of function – sensory or motor
- loss of speech
- loss of cognitive function
- Coma
- Death
