What is leerplicht?
Compulsory education for children aged 5 to 16. If a student doesn’t have a diploma at 16 they must stay in school until 18
What are the school types?
Basisschool (4-12)

What are the responsibilities for Minors?
Parents must ensure children attend school regularly, skipping school is illegal. The Leerplichtambtenaar monitors them.
How do you get student financing + what’s it called?
DUO gives student loans and grants. The basic grant is basisbeurs and an additional grant is there for low-income families. There’s also student travel product which is free public transport for students.
What are different childcare options in the Netherlands?
- Kinderdagverblijf (daycare) 0-4yrs
- Peuterspeelzaal (Playgroup) 2-4yr
- Gastouderopvang (Childminder) by certified caregivers (nannys)
What are different parental involvements which are expected by the school?
10 minutengesprek (parent-teachers meeting to discuss childs progress)
Ouderbijdrage (Parental contribution of a voluntary fee for extracurricular activities)
What does the consultiebureau do?
For ages 0 - 4yrs old. Used for medical checkups, vaccinations and parenting advice.
