06. Muscle Structures Flashcards
Fasciculi
bundles of muscle cells surrounded by fascia
Muscle fiber
cell making up muscle
Myofibril
groups of muscle proteins surrounded by sarcoplasmic reticulum
Myofilaments
basic molecular structure of muscle
Actin
muscle protein involved in contraction
Myosin
muscle protein with branches that connect to actin
sarcoplasmic reticulum
membrane bound channels with muscle cells that store calcium
Transverse (T) tubules
Deep invagination of the sarcolemma, which is the plasma membrane, only found in skeletal and cardiac muscle cells. These invaginations allow depolarization of the membrane to quickly penetrate to the interior of the cell.
Sarcolemma
outer membrane wall of muscle cells
Troponin
protein molecule attached to actin in muscle cells
