- reduce/eliminate gingival inflammation
- eliminate pockets formed by edematous gingival enlargement
- determine patient’s compliance
- determine patient’s response to treatment
- improve surgical manageability of the gingival tissues

What is usually done first, periodontal procedures or restorative procedures?
A
- periodontal procedures are generally rendered prior to restorative procedures
- this initiates resolution of pd inflammation and will shorten overall treatment time
