04-09: Goniometry of Wrist and Hand Flashcards
Wrist Flexion
ROM: 0˚-90˚
Pt: Short sitting, shoulder/elbow flexed 90˚, forearm pronated with hand off edge, fingers extended
Axis: Distal to styloid process of ulna
SA: Parallel to and over lateral midline of ulna, in line with olecranon
MA: Lateral midline of 5th metacarpal
ST: forearm
- Avoid radial/ulnar deviation; depression of 5th metacarpal
Wrist Extension
ROM: 0˚-70˚
Pt: Short sitting, shoulder/elbow flexed 90˚, forearm pronated with hand off edge, fingers flexed
Axis: Distal to styloid process of ulna
SA: Parallel to and over lateral midline of ulna, in line with olecranon
MA: Lateral midline of 5th metacarpal
ST: forearm
- Avoid radial/ulnar deviation
- Prevent cupping of 5th metacarpal
Wrist Radial Deviation
ROM: 0˚-25˚
Pt: Short sitting, shoulder/elbow flexed 90˚, forearm pronated with hand on table
Axis: Over capitate on dorsal wrist
SA: Dorsal midline of forearm
MA: 3rd metacarpal midline on dorsal surface
ST: forearm
- Avoid pronation/supination of wrist
Wrist Ulnar Deviation
ROM: 0˚-35˚
Pt: Short sitting, shoulder/elbow flexed 90˚, forearm pronated with hand on table
Axis: Over capitate on dorsal wrist
SA: Dorsal midline of forearm
MA: 3rd metacarpal midline on dorsal surface
ST: forearm
- Avoid pronation/supination of wrist
End Feels - Wrist
Firm - Flexion, Extension, Ulnar Deviation
Hard - Radial Deviation (scaphoid)
