Q

Cellular Respiration

A
  • Within cell
  • Allows cell to get energy out of glucose by using oxygen gas to break the bonds
  • Results in creation of carbon dioxide as a waste product

Q

How to transport oxygen in the blood?

A
  • Oxygen attaches itself to the hemoglobin in the red blood cells
  • Carbon dioxide can also do this but mostly dissolves into plasma in blood
  • Changes pH of the blood making it more acidic
  • Chemoreceptors in body monitor the pH, when it gets too low it sends a message to the brainstem, which sends a message to the ribs and diaphragm which causes you to breathe
  • When breathing you remove carbon dioxide from blood and so the blood pH returns to normal
