You are called to nursery to see this full-term, otherwise non-toxic infant with:
- Benign, transient pustular eruption
- Rare on palms & soles; occurs in crops
Diagnosis?
- How to make the dx?
- DDx?
- Etio?
- Tx?
- Natural Hx?

.Diagnosis = Erythema Toxicum Neonatorum
- Make dx by smear of pustule (Wright’s or Giemsa stain) = eosinophils
- DDx
- infection (bact, viral, yeast)
- infestation (scabies)
- TNPM
- Etio = unknown
- Tx: let it run its course + reassure parents
- Natural hx: usually resolves within 2-3 weeks

General rule for steroid use in kids?
A
no more than two weeks straight; break for at least 1 week before restarting

Kid comes in with suspected mast cell cytoma, what do you do?
A
rub it with a tongue depressor, look for wheal and flare (if there, must less likely to be cancer, likely Urticaria Pigmentosa)
