What are the differences between inflammatory and mechanical joint pain?

A

Inflammatory

  • AM stiffness > 1 hour
  • fatigue
  • better with movement and worse with rest
  • systemic symptoms
  • steroid responsive

Mechanical

  • AM stiffness < 30 minutes
  • NO fatigue
  • better with rest and worse with movement
  • NO systemic Sx
  • NOT steroid responsive
