0. DSA Intro to Neuroscience Flashcards
What is considered CNS and what is considered PNS? (2,5)
CNS: brain, spinal cord (brainstem, cerebellum, cerebral cortex)
PNS: Cranial N, Spinal N, Ganglia, Enteric plexuses, Sensory skin receptors, etc
What is a bundle of myelinated axons that travel together in the CNS, such as tract, lemniscus, fasciculus, column, peduncle, bundle or capsule?
White matter
What are areas that contain groups of cell bodies, such as nuclei, basal ganglia, thalamus, cortex or PNS with groups of cell bodies called ganglia?
gray matter
What are the gray and white matter within the spinal cord?
Gray: Dorsal horn, lateral horn, ventral horn
White: Dorsal column, lateral column, anterior column
What are the main features of the anterior/ventral side of the midbrain? (2) how about the dorsal/posterior side? (3)
Anterior Midbrain: cerebral peduncle and CNIII
Posterior Midbrain: Superior/Inferior colliculus and CN IV
What is the main feature of the pons?
trigeminal N CN V
What are the major features of the anterior ventral medulla? (5)
pyramids
olives
CN XI, X, XII
What does the diencephalon contain? (4)
thalamus
hypothalamus
epithalamus
eyes
What CNs come from the pontomedullary junction?
CN VI, VII, VIII
