Zumbo 2011 Flashcards
Validity is:
an integrated evaluative judgement of the degree to which empirical evidence and theoretical rationales support the adequacy and appropriatness of interpretations and actions based on test scores or other modes of assessment.
Validity is:
about the inferences interpretations, actions or decisions that are based on a test score and not the test itself. It refers to the degree to which all of the accumulated evidence support the intended interpretation of test scores for the proposed purpose. Validity is whether the inference one makes is appropriate meaningful and useful given the individual or sample with which one is dealing and the context in which the test user and individual/sample are working.
Validity is:
is all about the construct and the meaning of scores
Validation is
about presenting empirical evidence and a compelling argument to support the intended inference and to show that alternative or competing inferences are not more viable.
We aim to
identify the degree to which construct underrepresentation and construct-irrelevant variance are problems.
If there are problems then
a new test, a new theory or both needs to happen.
Messicks Validaton theory was to
highlight the importance of the consequential basis of test interpretation (value implications) and use (social consequences) in validity
