Zones of Caution Flashcards
Anyone must stop within 50ft of the crossing but not les than 15ft from the nearest railroad when
- the warning devices are flashing
- a human flagger is warning of an approaching train
- a train is visible
Advance warning sign
This is usually the first sign you
see when approaching a highway-railroad crossing
Crossbuck sign
- means the same as a Yield sign
- will have number of tracks if there’s more than 1
Drawbridge: Flashing Yellow Signal
the drawbridge is in operation, slow down and prepare to stop
Red drawbridge signal
come to a complete stop, the bridge is in operation
Yellow drawbridge signal
light is about to turn red, stop if you can, the bridge is about to start operation
Green drawbridge signal
Proceed with caution
Construction and maintenance signs
notify drivers of possible danger in or near work areas, usually diamond and orange
Channeling devices
- Barricades, vertical panels, drums, and cones
- Alert drivers of unusual or potentially dangerous
conditions in highway and street work zones - Guide drivers safely through the work area
- May be equipped with warning lights at night
- Stripes on barricades and panel devices slope
downward in the direction traffic must travel
Flashing Arrow Panels
direct drivers to proceed into different traffic lanes and inform them that part of the road ahead is closed
Flaggers
- construction workers who normally wear yellow vests, yellow-green shirts, or yellow/green jackets
- use the STOP/SLOW paddles & red flags to direct traffic through a work zone
