Edge lines
Solid lines along the side of the road mark the edge of the roadway
Solid white edge lines
Mark the right roadway edge
Solid yellow edge lines
Mark the left roadway edge
White lane lines
separate lanes of traffic moving in the same direction
Single broken white line
You may cross this line to change lanes when it is safe to do so
Single solid white line
Do not cross the line unless you must do so to avoid a hazard. Also used to discourage lane changes near intersections
Double solid white lines
Crossing is not allowed
Yellow lane lines
Separate lanes of traffic moving in opposite direction
Single broken yellow line
You may cross this line to change lanes when it is safe to do so, stay to the right
Double solid yellow lines
Vehicles moving in either direction must not cross these lines (unless turning left when it is safe to do so)
Double yellow solid right
Passing not allowed (unless turning left when it is safe to do so)
Double yellow broken right
Passing allowed when safe to do so
Two way roadway with center lane
drivers from either direction may use the center lane for left turns; not for passing.
Reversible lanes
Help handle rush-hour traffic, direction of traffic is normally reversed at set times each day
Exclusive bike lane
Solid white lines separate lanes from car lanes. Often marked with bike lane signs/symbols
