lacks population validity as it only represents outgoing people
briefly explain Zimbardo’s procedure
newspaper advert offering $15 a day for a psychology study, meant to last 14 days did checks to see if pts were mentally able to take part, randomly assigned roles of prisoner or guard through coin flip, prisoners were then put under a realistic arrest and taken into the experiment, Zimbardo was watching over the experiment
what were the results of Zimbardo’s study
the guards were 1/3 sadistic, 1/3 rule followers and 1/3 lenient
the prisoners- 4 left before it was over, some were obedient others rioted
what was some ethical issues Zimbardo faced
right to withdraw- he made leaving the experiment a very last resort and didn’t immediately let them go
debriefing- his advert in the newspaper didn’t describe his experiment in detail, however he did fully debrief hem afterwards
informed consent- they didn’t consent to everything in the experiment for example physical punishment
deception- he said they couldn’t leave but let 4 go
participant harm-guards tortured the prisoners leading one to an uncontrolable rage
