Define multiculturalism
Multiculturalism is the co-existence of diverse cultures.
Define voluntary migration
Voluntary migration means relocation according to personal desires.
Define push factors and give examples.
Push factors are the reasons why people leave an area. For example lack of services and unemployment
Define pull factors and give examples.
Pull factors are the reasons why people move to a particular area. For example better services and higher employment
Define obstacles and give examples.
Obstacles are the challenges people face when moving from one place to another. For example finding work and cost of moving.
Define consequences.
A consequence is a result or effect. It can be positive or negative.
Define refugee .
Refugee’s are people who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Define asylum seeking.
An asylum seeking is a person who has left their home country as a political refugee and is seeking asylum in another.
Define assimilation.
Cultural assimilation is when a group’s language and/or culture come to resemble those of another group.
Define integration.
Integration is a when a group assumes the beliefs, practices and rituals of another group without sacrificing the characteristics of its own culture.
Define migration.
Migration is the movement of people from one place to another. Migration usually happens as a result of a combination of push and pull factors.
Define counter flow and give examples.
Counter flow is the movement of people back to where they used to live. For example job opportunities and family.
Give examples of types of migration.
Inter-Urban, Rural-Urban, Emigration and Immigration.
What’s the difference between Emigration and Immigration?
Emigration is the movement of people out of a country. Immigration is the movement of people into a country.
