Firstly put the numbers into a fraction. Then simplify it via you calculator. Then divide a by the first top of the fraction to the simplified top part of the other fraction. Ta dah

Find the HCF of the 2
Then X the number with the HCF as many times as the HCF goes into the number e.g
The HCF of 8y and 16 is 8
8 x Y + 8 x 2
= y(y + 2)
