- Tends to be violent places (Feltham)
- Violence to children from other children and staff
Whats the worry about the children in YOIs
- Having many criminal children in one place,
- may make criminal friends,
- less chance of rehabilitation,
- more chance of re-offendings.
What can be an issue regarding the literacy and numeracy skills.
Tends to be 4 or 5 years below there chronological age.
Benefits of YOIs
- Are still safer than placing them with adult criminals
- A way for the children and young people to realise the law, appreciate they have broke a law.
- Safety for society
- Are meant to be controlled conditions
