How did intervention in Brittany offer Henry VII a foothold into France?
Brittany had independent status as part of France and was in the midst of conflict over that status. Henry saw that supporting Brittany to retain its independence but having the state rely on England would offer him a foothold into France.

It was to be raised as an early form of income tax and couldn’t be paid for in kind as traditionally could.
Why was the tax poorly received in Yorkshire?
-Henry VII had overthrown a Yorkist monarch. -Yorkshire had been hit by a poor harvest so this was seen as a tax too far. -Northern regions were exempted from other taxes because they were expected to pay for defenses against the Scots.
Who presented the grievances of the people to the king? What happened to him when he returned?
Earl of Northumberland. He was murdered on his return by those who opposed the tax.

He fled to Flanders.
How did Henry reconcile with the North?
He traveled north and issued pardons to many of those involved.
Why was the Earl of Surrey made lieutenant in Northumberland?
The new earl of northumberland was a minor. The Earl of Surrey had no reason not to be loyal to the King.
