What is the goal of yoga?

A

To bond/merge the individual soul with the ultimate reality of Brahman. You remove strong desires and attachment to physical pleasures, material things and worldly concerns

A

Unity and integration. It is the means, methods and discipline which bring union with a personal God, the supreme being or Brahman

What is karma yoga?

A

The path of unselfish action - doing daily work and duties (in stage of life and caste) selflessly, without any desire for reward or gain, and using talents and potential for the good of society

What is bhakti yoga?

A

The way of devotion to God - expressed in a loving relationship with a personal deity, praising them by chanting and singing

What is jnana yoga?

A

The way of knowledge and understanding - God is an impersonal force, and self realisation is achieved through deep meditation and oneness with Brahman

What is raja yoga

A

Royal yoga - regarded by some as the highest form of yoga and fulfilment of all yogas. It is a form of self control over senses and mind, with deep contemplation of Brahman.
When raja yoga is achieved, the personality is transformed (free from anger lust greed sadness envy)
