What with the secondary effects that the earthquake had on the city?
The wall of fire 500 m wide swept the city
People lost gas and electricity
5000 people died and 23,600 were injured
230,000 people were left homeless
Why did so many people die?
Because of the fire
Because buildings collapsed
And because the highway closed so no emergency services could get to the people who need them
Why did the Fire rescue service becomes even more difficult?
The water pipe had burst so they couldn’t get enough water
What caused the Kobe earthquake
Do you convection current in the mantle of the earth moved plates together. This was due to radioactive decay in the core producing heat. When the Pacific plate and Eurasian plate meet the denser Pacific plate subducts under the Eurasian plate. As the plates try to slide past each other the friction between them increases the plate certainly Jack passed each other releasing energy that moves the ground as seismic waves
