Rivers: Key Words Flashcards
What is evaporation
Where the water liquid heats and turns to a vapour. It then rises upwards into the sky.
What is the hydrochloric cycle
The cycle of water from below ground, on ground, in the air and on the sea.
What is transpiration
Water vapour is given off by plants and is released into the air.
What is condensation
Where the water vapour cools and turns back to a liquid.
What is precipitation
It is water that can fall as rain, sleet, snow or hail. Solids or liquids.

What is attrition
Where pebbles bash into each other and rub against each other causing them to get smaller. There sharp uneven parts are scratched off and there surface is smoothed down
What is abrasion
Where small stones and pebbles are carried in suspension and rube giants the banks of the river like a sand papering action. Soon the sides of the river and the river bed are worn away.
Hydrochloric action
The force of the river dislodges particles in the river banks
Corrosion
Acids in the water dissolve the rock
Traction
Boulders are rolled along the river
Saltation
Sand sized particles are rolled along the river bed
Suspension
Fine clay and sand particles are carried along within the water
