What is Nuclear power and how is it used to create energy?
Nuclear power is electric or motive power generated by a nuclear reactor
How sustainable is nuclear power?
- Nuclear energy saves lives as toxic waste is stored somewhere safe
- Nuclear energy reduces CO2
What were the causes and impacts of the Chernobyl disaster?
The Chernobyl disaster had many long term impacts as many buildings were destructed so rebuilding them caused financial problems
What is a superpower nation?
A superpower nation is an extremely powerful country, especially one capeable of influencing international events and the acts and policies of less powerful countries. Its power can be felt all over the world.
The seven superpower nations are: China, USA, UK, Russia, India, France and Brazil
What are the 7 factors that make a country a superpower?
Money, military, development, economy, population, resources and size
Who are emerging superpowers?
Mexico
Indonesia
Nigeria
Turkey
All these countries are developing into a superpower due to their high level of development
How do you work out percentage change using migrant data?
- Work out the difference between the 2 numbers being compared
- Divide the increase by the original number and multiply by 100
How far did the British Empire expand?
The British Empire covered around 1/4 of the earth
How do governments contribute to globalisation?
Trading and migration are key ways of globalising with other countries as people are offered globalised work
What does TNC stand for?
Transnational Coorporations
What are TNCs?
Transnational Corporations (TNCs) are companies that produce and sell products and are located in more than one country
What is development? How do TNCs increase it?
A development of a country is any improvement in the standard of life. TNCs increase it as it increases employment levels in different countries
What are Inter-governmental organisations (IGOs)?
IGOs are international groups, made up of a number of different countries who play a large part in the making of international laws
What are Asylum seekers?
Asylum seekers are people who have requested protection from conflict
What are Refugees?
Refugees are forced to leave their country to gain protection from conflict
