Year 8 Term 2 - Compounds Flashcards
A ….. contains two or more ….. that are …… combined in fixed …….
Compound, elements, chemically, positions
How are compounds named?
Based upon elements within them
If 2 elements only are present how do you name the formula
Change the end of the second to -ide
E.g: oxygen to oxide
Hydrogen to hydride
If there is a metal (e.g sodium), hydrogen and oxygen how do you name it
Sodium hydroxide
If there is a metal, another element and oxygen how do you name it
Change end of second element to -ate
E.g: calcium carbonate
Sodium bromate
