Year 7 Revision speed Flashcards
What is the formula for speed calculations?
Speed=distance-:time
What are the three units you use for speed?
Metres per second- m/s
Miles per hour- mph or miles/h
Kilometres per hour- km/h
For example:
A hooligan sheep is skateboarding down a farmers track. You notice it takes exactly 5 seconds to move between two fence posts, 10 metres apart. What’s the sheeps speed?
Distance=10m and time=5secs
Speed=distance-:time
=10-:5= 2m/s
A camper van sprints down the motor way and travels 15miles in 30 minutes. What’s its speed?
D=15
T=30
15-: 0.5= 30miles/ hour (mph)
If two objects are moving towards each other on the same straight line what do you do?
To calculate there relative motion you add the speeds together
If to cars are going the same way at different speeds what do you do?
You have to subtract the two speeds
