Q

What is a reversible reaction?

A

A reversible reaction is one where the reactants from products which react together to give the reactants back. A and B can react to form C and D which can react to give A and B back.

Q

What is an example of a reversible reaction?

A

Hydrated copper sulphate (which is coloured blue) which is heated to become anhydrous copper sulphate (coloured white) and water. These react again to become blue hydrated copper sulphate.

Q

Why did Mendeleev leave gaps in his periodic table?

A

He left the spaces for atoms that he thought hadn’t been discovered yet. He knew this as there were some gaps left in places were atoms with different properties hadn’t been discovered yet.

Q

How is Mendeleev’s periodic table different than the one we have now?

A

Mendeleev’s was arranged in order of atomic weight (protons + neutrons) but the one we have now is in order of atomic number (amount of protons)
